In the vein of Project333, I’ve decided to take three of the main things each on this holiday to Sicily. This isn’t the normal approach for Project333, but the founder, Courtney Carver, says you can bend the rules to suit whenever you want, so I’m altering them a little for this two-week trip.
We leave on Saturday, staying the night in Basel so we can be at the airport in time for our early flight on Sunday morning. I love packing, so everything’s prepared already!
Leo came home yesterday with a new carry-on suitcase for me, which was a lovely gesture. At 2.75 kilos, it’s probably heavier than something I would have chosen for myself, but I’m sure I’m going to love it.
Originally, I’d planned to take a 22-litre backpack, but it would have been a bit snug, and maybe, just maybe, I might buy something new while I’m there 🙂 (Update: I bought three small bars of soap. That’s it! And if you’d like to see what I packed for a five-day trip to London, click here.)
So, here we go!

- Dress 1: Black with a small white pattern and thin belt. My friend Lyndal bought this dress for me when she visited Switzerland last year and I love it

- Dress 2: This black and white dress (yes, I love black and white dresses!) fits perfectly and is great during the day

- Dress 3: The colours in this suit me – greens, creams and black – and I’ll wear it at night
-
- Bottoms 1: Floral cotton pants in case it’s cool at night and to combat the mosquitoes, which I’ve been told can be incessant
-
- Bottoms 2: A pair of simple black cotton shorts
-
- Bottoms 3: A multi-coloured, cotton, Japanese print skirt
-
- Top 1: This top is a bit fancier than a normal tank top thanks to the ruffled, cap-sleeve shoulders
-
- PJs 2: A navy blue and white fine-striped t-shirt made of lovely, breathable, merino wool.

- Top 3: The cowl neck on this cream t-shirt adds a bit extra. It’s so old and is pilling badly, but I haven’t found a good replacement

- Long sleeve 2: Cream long-sleeve lightweight top

- Cover-up 2: A cropped cotton blend cardigan

- Cover-up 3: Lightweight cotton multi-coloured stripe scarf from Ecuador. It’s like I never leave home without it and often wrap it around my shoulders or neck

- Accessory 1: A sturdy straw hat

- Accessory 2: Light brown fake leather handbag, just the right size for bits and bobs

- Accessories 6: My jewellery – one necklace, two pairs of ear rings (blue coloured studs not shown) and two rings

- Shoes 1: Black sandals with tan straps. They weigh 340 grams as a pair. Hope I get to wear them!

- Shoes 2: Black plastic Birkenstocks. A pair weighs 180 grams

- Shoes 3: Strappy cork wedges, weighing 380 grams total

- Beach 1: Bikini

- Beach 2: Cotton sarong/towel

- Beach 3: A light cotton dress to wear to and from the beach

- Undergarments 1: Pyjama dress, because we’ll be staying with Leo’s dad for a few nights so need something in the night

- Undergarments: Two bras, two full-brief merino wool undies and two g-strings
-
- Necessities 2: Pouch with passport, Rescue Remedy drops (I don’t like flying), tissues, hand wipe, ear plugs, olloclip camera attachment for my iPhone, pen and plastic zip tie

- Miscellaneous 1: Two net bags for buying fruit or bread etc and a green carry bag for other shopping

- Miscellaneous 2: Travel clothes line and universal plug, so we can wash our things in the hand basin

- Miscellaneous 3: Sunglasses (plus a small cotton square for sweat mopping and sunglasses cleaning)

- Electronics 1 and 2: iPad mini in case with charger (not shown, which also works for my iPhone, Electronics 2, not shown)

- Electronics 2: Compact camera, charger and spare battery, for taking nicer photos than the iPhone, which is Electronics 3 (not shown)

- My new suitcase, which has two halves and four wheels

- Outfit example 1: Black Lyndal dress and Birkenstocks

- What I’ll be wearing on the plane. Will have the scarf handy to stop my neck getting cold in the air conditioning
I’m really sorry about the quality of the dress-up photos. The only mirror we have is attached to the back of a door which faces directly towards the window, so the light from behind makes everything dark.
For my toiletries and make-up, I’ll be taking something very similar to this previous post for our walk in May. Instead of the small liquid foundation, I’ll pack a compact face powder and some tinted sunscreen.
I know I have too much (I could get away with one dress I’m sure), but there’s still plenty of space in the suitcase, so much so that I’m taking that third pair of shoes! I never normally travel with heels, as they make me taller than Leo. Choosing the best shoes can be a real pain. Luckily mine are lightweight and hopefully fashionable enough for the Sicilian nightlife.
I won’t be the smartest dressed there, but hopefully what I’ve packed will be suitable. Comfort and practicality always take precedence over fashion for me!
Wonder if I’ll take anything out or add anything in between now and Saturday. Can you see anything missing?

Very lucky indeed, and thank you! I watched some of the golf from St Andrews and was shocked at the summer you’re having. Wooly hats and coats. Brrrr. We could definitely send you about five to eight degrees and still be warm here. Incredible summer so far. Hope it makes it to you (and your garden!) soon.

Thank you swissrose! I hope the dresses aren’t too warm – the black one for night time is a bit thick, so we’ll just have to wait and see. I, too, love the Japanese skirt. It rolls/folds down to almost nothing, and is so versatile. The sandals were a brilliant buy on my last trip home to Australia. I’d definitely buy them again. I hope you and your family aren’t suffering too much in this heatwave (but as I type this it’s raining. What a relief!). Looks like it’s going to cool down next week.
