I’m back! We came home this afternoon after a great four-day/three-night adventure in the Alsace Region on the border of France and Germany.
Sorry for the absence, but as mentioned before, I find it hard to write while on exploring holidays. And we did a lot of exploring! I’ll write more about it over the next few days. (I’ve decided to just do this one post with photos.)
- Still plenty of snow around at 1400m on Grand Ballon. We didn’t walk to the top
- The view from Grand Ballon
- The best hotel in Neuf-Brisach – also the only hotel there too
- Relaxing with a lovely beer in Neuf-Brisach
- Walking around the walled city of Neuf-Brisach. The walls form an octagon kind of shape
- Daffodils in Neuf-Brisach
- It’s amazing how often you see Camino signs in Europe. This was on the walls of Neuf-Brisach
- You could walk around the walled city easily
- One of the entry gates – this one is just for pedestrians, but there are wider gates for cars too
- We crossed the Rhine from France into Germany to visit Breisach
- We’re in France, Germany is on the other side of the Rhine. Not a spaceship in the top corner either, just some reflections
- The church of St Leon high on the rocky outcrop in Dabo
- Looking down at our hotel
- Sunset from the rock in Dabo
- The view from our room. We had the smallest, most uncomfortable bed, but at 33 Euros for the night, we shouldn’t complain!
- We drove along the wine route from north to south and stopped in Riquewihr. Very beautiful but very touristy!
- Lots of colour in Riquewihr
- Still lots of Easter decorations around in the picturesque Kaysersberg
- Our hotel in Buhl had lovely gardens and a wellness centre. Steam room – yeehar!
- The water was 25 degrees Celcius in Buhl, so I went for my first swim of the year
- At the Eco Museum, which shows the region’s history. I could have taken them all home. They weren’t for sale (and hopefully weren’t for food!)
- There were storks all over the buildings, as far as the eye could see!
- School children in traditional hats on a tour with the baker
- We know about little red roosters, but this black and green one was amazing!
- Good looking fortress in the Eco Museum
- Wool and spinning wheel. Love the light in this pic
- Airing the dirty laundry? Well, the ladies who would have washed it in the big stone water tub area (out of frame, to the right) might have been prone to a gossip or two
- The garden house in the background allowed the farmer to survey his fields as well. At the Eco Museum
- They had houses from all over the Alsace region, but I liked this one the best. Small and functional …
- … if you consider keeping the baby in the pantry room an option. Very sweet
- In the kitchen. It does the job!
- The lounge room
- All in! And that’s all!
How are you feeling? I’m feeling mentally and physically fit, but definitely not nutritionally! We ate a lot of yummy/bad things while away and my body’s ready to attack healthier food from Monday.
And now? We’re off to dinner to celebrate Rene’s birthday (our neighbour). More meat and potatoes I’m sure!
Wishing you a wonderful day.
I was about send out the St Bernard with a whiskey barrel. Pleased you had a good time
